Today was my first planned RKC Snatch Test outing. I planned to do this today, two maybe three weeks ago. I figured I would peak today with the test then taper off for the rest of the week, before starting up again in the new year.
I admit I made myself pretty nervous about today. I didn't want to put too much pressure on myself as it was only my first attempt, and I know I wouldn't be able to hit 52 needed to pass the real RKC test, and I kept telling myself that the whole point of this was to give myself a baseline to work from, but regardless I was nervous.
So anyway, to cut to the point... I completed 30!
Warmed up with...
2-Hand Swings: 16kg - 30, 24kg - 10
Then went right into the test...
Snatches: 24kg - 15/15
Started out on the left side. The first 15 were surprisingly easier than I expected. The second half was another story. I definitely felt constrained from wind and not from strength. I guess that's telling me that I should start stretching out my sets to some higher reps as I have been doing sets of 5/5.
I am very happy with today's result. I knew I'd be able to do twenty, thirty I thought was possible but would be a stretch. Well I stretched it! Maybe 52 isn't impossible after all... hahaha. Nice Christmas present to myself.
Thanks for stopping by. And have yourself a very Merry Christmas!!

Unlike military press, practicing snatch will give you honest results. 20/20 would be there in no time. Keep it up!
Excellent performance, Howie.
20/20, then 30/30.
Thanks Guys. I think I'll plan one of these session at the end of every month to see how my training in assisting in my snatch progress.
howie do you have a 20 kg bell? if so then do your rkc snatch numbers with that first then build up to it with the 24kg.
if not then do as you thought, start off with some high rep sets increasing a few reps each arm til you get your numbers. 2-3 weeks of increasing then a back off week or so.I would do it more often than once a month though, more like once a week.
after your first high rep set, do one or two more hi rep sets dropping reps a bit
eg
set one 17/17
two 14/14
three 12/12
then do some lower rep multiple sets
3-4 sets of 6-8.
also, make sure to do LOTS of one arm swings for the TIME RANGE you need to make your snatch test.
Rif... TIME RANGE? I don't recall seeing that in the Cert Requirements. Is there just a maximum limit to get them done? Or is this a self-imposed Time Range?
And no, I don't have a 20kg. So I'll take up your suggestion on the rep scheme, thank you. This should be interesting because the one set I did this week was tough. Doing multiple sets will definitely be a challenge.
